Earlier this week we visited the crash site of a massive iron-nickel meteor that struck Earth 50 000 years ago. Meteor Crater is located just west of Winslow, AZ and is definitely something to check out.
As the story goes, a meteorite that measured 150 feet across broke away from the core of an asteroid moving at a speed of 26 000 miles per hour. Within seconds of hitting the ground, the pressure was so strong it changed the landscape forever leaving a giant hole 4000 feet across and 700 feet deep.
While I openly admit I don’t fully understand how the crater was formed, it was still fun to check it out… even if it did cost $60.00 US to see it!
